Running for Family and Justice

Running for Family and Justice
The recent Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon and Half Marathon brought runners from all over to town. One of those runners came to The Frame Studio to create a custom shadow box and frame. We have created previous shadow boxes  for Karen, from other races, but the contents of this box are a little extra special to her: a photo of her at the finish line, her time card (she finished in 2nd Place in her age category - a fantastic achievement), her number tag, her medal for participating but most treasured is the button she wore on her left hip as she ran. The button is in commemoration of her co...

Family Hierloom

Family Hierloom
When I first began at The Frame Studio my initial thoughts of designing a frame layout could have been described as straightforward. Since then I have learned quite a bit about quality frame design.  For instance this framing project below is stunning yet simple. The quality of materials used is obvious. The white matte provides a key function giving space between the frame and the picture letting the layout breath and draw the focus to the babies. But, what sets this framing apart is the matching fillet and frame with their natural wood tones which compliment the grass and the woven baskets o...

Guy Harvey

Guy Harvey
Guy Harvey has been a favorite artist of mine since my dad bought me a t-shirt when I was a kid. Since then, I have always taken a liking to all of his paintings and this one was no exception. Not only is the painting beautiful but the frame compliments it so nicely it really takes it to that next level. The wooden frame provides a nice neutral color which is easy on the eyes. The insert is what sets this piece apart from other framings though, it has a copper color that looks like its beginning to oxidize. This color combination is the perfect segue between the frame and the painting. The met...

Big expectations for Small pieces

A lot of the more elaborate frame designs done here at The Frame Studio tend to be rather large pieces. I think this has to do with the clients expectations not being very high of small pieces. But every now and then a client comes in with a small piece they have a vision for and the end result looks so great. This is one of those scenarios. These two paintings (about 5x5) we're acquired while on a clients vacation. With the paintings being so colorful and the frame with a bold design, the white inlaid liner lets the painting breathe while adding to the overall size of the finished piece. This...

Inked Ocean Life

One of the most interesting aspects of framing are all the different types of art that are brought in to be framed here in Fort Lauderdale. This is one of my new favorite artist that I have discovered from working at The Frame Studio. This particular artists name is Alex Gupton, and his artwork is very detail oriented. In fact there is so much detail, I was informed by the client that brought in these two pieces, that each piece Gupton does he hides a three eyed fish somewhere in the artwork. I did spend the time to find the three eyed fish, it reminded me of a mutant fish from The Simpsons. T...

Maillol from the private collection of Martin and Cherie

Bela and I were invited on a tour of Martin and Cherie's private collection of fine french art and photographs.  Our hosts served us great wine and hors d'oeuvres, interesting details about each piece, and rounded out the night with lemon merinjue pie and espresso.  We had a great time.  Shortly after they brought in this amazing piece that had just arrived, for us to frame.  We only wish you could see it in real life.  It is captivating. Aristide Maillol (1861 - 1944) Projet de decor: Groupe des femmes nues, l'une avec de grandes ailes, une autre portant une gerbe de fleurs. Encre de chine, ...
