What’s a Wall Calendar???

What’s a Wall Calendar???
Some times I am stunned at the things that were regular everyday items for me since childhood, that kids today will look at like a confused puppy complete with head tilt and question mark whimper - a wall mounted rotary phone, a record player, a phone book.  Then there are the things that still hold on for dear life, despite the new technology that has replaced them; specifically I am speaking of THE WALL CALENDAR.  Every year, during the holiday season, you can find a pop up kiosk that looks like a card house built of wall calendars.  Despite our need for a wall calendar is no more, we all fi...

Night and Day

Night and Day
What happens when you don't have conservation glass on your custom framed art?  We at THE FRAME STUDIO know all too well.  Here is the proof of how the UV coating on glass can save the colors in your art.  When we lifted up the mat that protected the colors underneath, the difference in the sky of the print really is night and day.

Updating an Old Love

Updating an Old Love
A client recently brought in this painting of a koala that she had framed back in 1979.  She was still in love with the painting, but was looking for a more updated design that could work along with her new living room. We at THE FRAME STUDIO found a custom framing combination that would work with her new rustic grey living room.  The shift in colors updated the look - that avocado bottom mat was so 70s - while making the koala the warmest part of the design, drawing your eye inward.  We also evened the matting on all sides to give the piece more balance.  Changing the regular glass to Cons...

Reframing – 22 Years Later

Reframing – 22 Years Later
As many of us do when we graduate from college, I didn't think too much about how my diploma was framed.  I was a starving artist with big student loan payments, and went the ready-made frame way to display my diploma (see below).  This small piece of paper that I spent over $25,000 on, got jammed into a cheap frame and matt.  I went to art school!  My diploma should look a bit better than that!  Come on!  I work at THE FRAME STUDIO!  I am a picture framer! So I decided to reframe this expensive piece of paper - 22 years later. The first thing we had to contend with, was the damage that was...

Summer Storm Time is Here

Summer Storm Time is Here
Summer in Florida is time for daily thunderstorms.  THE FRAME STUDIO has many friends who like doing jig saw puzzles during those down times.  Clients of ours recently brought in a puzzle they had finished that is extra special.  This wooden puzzle is made by Liberty Puzzles.  The fun thing about Liberty's wooden puzzles is that they have a wide range of specialty pieces for each puzzle - like animals, people, and flowers. We think this custom framing design works well with the art, and helps show case the special pieces.  If you flip the frame over, the back has glass instead of a mounting...

Belated Happy Birthday Marilyn!!!

Belated Happy Birthday Marilyn!!!
A belated happy birthday goes out to Miss Marilyn Monroe who was born on June 1, 1926.  To celebrate, we thought we would share two great pieces of work that we recently custom framed at THE FRAME STUDIO.  The featured collage of Marilyn was made entirely of wine bottle labels, by Florida artist Billy Hoblik.  The other great collage that is framed in gold is by Nick Smith, a Scottish artist that uses color swatches to recreate famous works of art.  Two different collages of one glamourous lady.
